CRIMINAL & DWI | CRIMINAL LAW & DWI
When I moved to Columbia County thirteen years ago, I didn't know if there would be enough criminal defense work to sustain me. I have always loved criminal defense work, but a rural, upstate county with about 60,000 people did not initially seem to be a fertile ground for building my practice. There were numerically more serious crimes in one week in New York City, than there were in Columbia County in a decade. So much for logic. I am probably best well known in Columbia County as a criminal defense lawyer. I have defended people charged with everything from shoplifting to murder. I represent people in the state courts of Columbia and the surrounding counties, and in the federal courts. I've written an article that answers the 10 most frequently asked criminal law questions. You can read it on line or down load it. This will be very helpful if you or someone important to you has been arrested. I usually limit myself in how far I will travel to provide representation. I usually travel no further than Syracuse to the West and New York City to the South. I imposed this limit because I think it's very important for me to be familiar with the policies and practices of particular District Attorneys' offices. When I go farther afield, I find myself in unfamiliar territory. Surprisingly, a lot of criminal law involves representation of people who have not yet been charged with a crime. This includes people under investigation by various agencies, people who may be compelled to testify in a Grand Jury or some other venue, people who want to resolve criminal issues discreetly before an arrest is made. In these contexts and other pre-charge situations, discretion and speed and familiarity with local practices are all essential. I've often said, only half jokingly, that nobody knows about my best work. That's because in this context my best work keeps things from happening. If you want to discuss your criminal defense matter with me, please telephone me at (518) 392-9150 or e-mail. | Top of Page | Home | |
